David Gembala — On the Jobsite

This photograph shows David Gembala reviewing work on a commercial construction site. It is the field-supervision image in the set — the point where a specified roof assembly is checked against what is actually being installed.

A lightweight insulating concrete deck is only as good as its execution: the cast density, the cure, the fastening pattern into a substrate far softer than structural concrete. David Gembala has spent a career on that gap between the specification and the built result, and closing it is the part of the job that does not photograph well and matters most.

It is also where his experience shows. Having run the jobs himself, he knows which corners get cut under schedule pressure and which ones cannot be — the judgment an owner is really buying when they bring in a contractor at this level.
